I am a nationally ranked sailor and I fell in love with Penn. I'm applying early decision. Will being in contact with the sailing coach along with my achievements give me a better shot at getting in, similar to a football or basketball player?

“being in contact with” and “being recruited” can span a huge gulf. If you are being recruited, you’re afforded an official visit and the language is clear what is at hand: admissions in exchange for your commitment to the team.

If it’s just at a level of “the coach knows me and will try to put in a good word for me” – then you can’t expect much of a boost whatsoever.

Athletes and parents over on this forum have much more experience than I do however. Try reposting there. Good luck
