Will being transfer student affect my aid?

So I’ll be transferring as a Junior next year and my EFC is 0. I’m still waiting to be accepted to the schools I applied to. I was just wondering since I’m going to be a little later than most people, will I be getting the short end of the stick? The last thing I want to do is have to apply for a loan for an under grad degree and with this grant it would cover 95% of my tuition. Is it common for schools to not honor a transfer student’s EFC and not give the full amount or any?

Schools you transfer to are not obliged to give you any aid other than a Pell grant.

What grant are you talking about that covers 95% of tuition?

Florida State University, which I’m 99.99% sure I’ll be accepted, has in state tuition of only $6500.
Yeah, the Pell grant was the one I was referring to, I’d have to double check but I believe they said I should receive $5900. Actually 90% of tuition but that’s good you are saying they have to acknowledge the Pell grant? Sorry, I’m new to this stuff lol.

If your completion ratio is above the threshhold you should qualify for a Pell grant, but your mom needs to get the FAFSA completed. Can you commute to FSU? If so, the Pell grant and federal student loan should be enough to cover direct costs.

You will get the same Pell grant at any school (as long as a school hasn’t used professional judgment to increase it).

You’ll get the Pell at FSU, but FSU gives other grants and federal money on a first come/first served basis, like work study and SEOG. I’ve know people who stay up to midnight to file on the first day. Any Bright Futures money you may have also transfers. There are also Florida state grants so you might qualify for those but again most schools run out of funds. Did you send your FAFSA to FSU early?

I completed the FASFA application probably a month ago.I did enter the the school code for them to be sent so they should have the FASFA. I’m honestly just very happy with being able to receive the Pell Grant but I don’t know if it’s going to be too late for other forms of aid. Hopefully they’ll give me their decision soon!
