Is there any subjective portion to Cal Poly? Like if I call them wondering about my application or attempt to portray that my interest in the school, is there any chance of it helping at all?

In a word, NO. No kissing up allowed. They really don’t like it. They really are all about the numbers. Having said that, if you have applied and have a real problem or don’t understand something that seems important, by all means give them a call. I am always amazed at how many applicants ask for the kind of advice on this forum that would be better handled by just calling the appropriate dept. directly. Last year, when I was applying as a freshman, someone advised me to make a real live phone call if I needed information or was confused about something, so that’s what I did. And guess what? I mostly got really nice folks on the phone who gave me immediate answers instead of me just sitting around worrying or trying to figure out how things worked on my own. Best advice I got, so I’m passing it on.

yeah man, its chill

You already displayed your interest in the school, you applied.
