I took a lot of community colleges during high school... about 40 semester units........ Even though the grades will not be counted when determing my undergraduate college GPA... I'm wondering will it affect the GPA that I'll use to apply for Med School with?

Also, will colleges know that they were taken during my high school years?.. Will it even matter if they were?.. will it be negatively looked upon since it was from a community college? which many assume is way too easy....

I am in a bit of the same situation as you...but i have even a bit more units. The news for you is, ALL classes taken at ANY post-seconday school (including CC's during HS) must be reported to the AMCAS, so the calculation that your school gives you of your ug gpa really isn't the gpa med schools see; instead it's the AMCAS GPA, which has a separate space for HS, Fr, So, Jr, Sr, PostBac.

My question is why you would think this looks bad? It surely won't be counted against you, unless you're intending on fulfilling premed requirements with those classes, in which you might be recommended to retake them at your 4-year institution by your premed advisor.

high school GPA not for hs courses, for college gpa for college courses taken during high school must be reported...sorry I didn't make that clearer

So all classes taken at CC during high are averaged into the GPA? For example, even if I only took government, psychology, economics, etc., they would count towards my AMCAS average?

Also, how about if I took a class at CC and i never requested credit for it at my college (I took C++, but I don't need that credit for college). Would this be averaged in as well?

Here's the bottom line...if it's on any (CC, state school, private school) undergraduate or post-seconday education transcript, you're responsible for reporting it truthfully. If it doesn't show up on a transcript (you never got a grade reported from the prof at the CC nor is there any record you ever were in the class), then you don't.

Yes, I understand that all the courses will be reported, however, I was wondering if med schools would include the grades of the CC courses taken in high school (government, economics--non-science courses) into your AMCAS GPA.

yep...additional info if you didn't know: AMCAS will calculate a BCPM (science/math) GPA, an "All-Others" GPA and a Total GPA for Med Schools to easily see what they need to.

My friend took all of his pre-med sciences courses at a cc and still got into med school...The only other sciences classes he took were at UCSB....
