Will chance back! Chance me for Columbia, UChicago, Duke, CMU, Cornell, Northwestern?

Hey guys, thanks in advance for chancing me. This is one of my first post, please be brutally honest. I seriously don't know how I'll do in the admission process b/c I fall in a different category than many of you. I have good academics/gpa, but weaker extracurriculars. Well, just take a look:

Objective:

SAT I (breakdown): 2400 single sitting
ACT: none
SAT II: Math2 800, US History 800, BiologyM 790
UW GPA: 4.0? school doesn't report, but I've never had below a 95 in a class
W GPA: 4.727
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): ~top 3 out of 143
AP (place score in parenthesis): CompSci 5, World 5, Stats 5, USH 5, Bio 4, Lang/Comp 3
IB (place score in parenthesis): none
Senior Year Course Load: Calc BC, AP Micro+Macro, AP Spanish, AP Physics C, English electives
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): NMSF, AP Scholar w/ distinction, National Spanish Exam Silver, Headmaster's list

Subjective:

Extracurriculars: basketball team, math club president, computer club president, NHS executive council, Carolina Premier Bank program, Students of Service club, Key club
Job/Work Experience: none
Volunteer/Community service: volunteer at Carolina Medical Center (100+ hrs), Math Buddies tutoring, peer tutoring service (through NHS), school's Key Club
Summer Activities: business camp at UNCC, basketball team camp at Wofford, nothing huge
Essays: Common App (at least 8/10 if I'm being hard on myself), Supplement Essays (all around 7-9 out of 10)
Teacher Recommendation: Calc BC teacher (9/10), English teacher (she likes me but not very diligent person, probs 8/10)
Counselor Rec: (9/10, he's a pro and knows me well)
Additional Rec: none

Other

State (if domestic applicant): NC
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: private school, send a handful to Ivies on a good year. my year is super competitive, at least 9 other ppl are applying to Columbia, and every other top school
Ethnicity: Asian (goddamnit, the only part I hate about being Chinese)
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: lol, lets just say that there is no way that I could qualify for FA
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): haha, nope
Major: Economics (except CMU is computer science, b/c, duh)

Just wondering if I even have a chance, or if I just ****ed away another couple hundred bucks in fees. Goddamn, I swear that my year is literally the most competitive class for the past 10 years. I'm near the top, but with less than 150 kids, colleges won't accept more than 2 from our school, right?

Oh yeah, I'll chance back.

Columbia: low reach (it’s a reach for everyone).
UChicago: depends on your essay.
Everywhere else, match.

“Goddamnit, the only part I hate about being Chinese”
XD

Anyway:
Columbia: low reach
UChicago: Yes, like Rainman said, the essay is important, I’d say high match just to play it safe.
Cornell: Low reach
Other places: High match/match

Very good scores/GPA, but your ECs/awards could be a lot stronger. All of these schools have pretty low acceptance rates so I doubt you’ll get into all of them, but IMO you will probably get into a few. May I ask why you didn’t apply EA? It improves your chances by a lot.

Columbia - Low Reach/Reach
UChicago - Low Reach (Essays play a big part)
Duke - Low Reach
CMU - Reach for CS - Very competitive
Cornell - Low Reach
Northwestern - Match/High Match (You’ll probably get it)

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feed back

@rainman, I really liked my UChicago essays, I thought they were decent, probs 9/10

@bbanks, I applied ED to Wharton and was rejected. I kinda was hoping to get in so that I didn’t have to finish my supplements. My fault for procrastinating. But does EA really help your chances by a lot? I always thought it was only ED that boosted your chances?

If the Chicago adcoms too like your essay, you’re most likely in.

Columbia: reach
UChicago: reach
Duke: low reach
CMU: high match
Cornell: low reach

Good luck with everything! Besides a seeming lack of leadership positions in your ECs, I’m confident you’ll get into at least one (probably more) of those schools :)

Ivies are reaches for everyone
UChicago is a low reach/high match (based on your essay like everyone said)
Duke - low reach
CMU - high match
Northwestern - high match
You’re a really strong applicant it’s just that the schools you’re applying to are so competitive and selective that its hard to know your exact chances

Oh and chance me back! :stuck_out_tongue: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1595874-chance-me-ucs.html</a></p>

Chicago and Columbia are reaches as they are for everyone, but all the others are matches

Chance me! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1593643-chance-me-upenn-uva-chicago-michigan-usc.html</a></p>

Your academics are strong and you have great activities!
If you are a good writer, then I’d say
Columbia- low reach
Chicago- low reach
Duke- Match
CMU- Match
NU- You’ll get in
Cornell- Match

Columbia and UChicago have <9% accept rates and are naturally reaches. Duke, NU and Cornell are a little easier with their ~13-16% accept rates. I think you’re in at CMU.

Columbia: Ivy = Reach, as always.
UChicago: Low Reach for a student like you right now, but in years to come will get harder.
Duke: Match.
CMU: Most likely a Match, though CS is, as stated above, very competitive there.
Northwestern: Match.
Cornell: Match.

Chance me back?

Columbia: reach
UChicago: reach
Duke: low reach
CMU: Good chances
Cornell: Solid chances
NW: Solid chances

Columbia: low reach
UChicago: match
Duke: high reach
CMU: match
Cornell: reach
NW: low reach

Best of luck!! :D

Chance me for UCD, UCSD, UCSB, and UCSC? Posted a new thread yesterday. chances back

Given that you’re an unhooked applicant, you’ve basically maxed out your chances. I think you’ll get into one of Columbia or Chicago, then in at the rest.

Columbia: match
Chicago: match
Duke: match
CMU: low match
Cornell: low match
NW: low match

I think that you have a good chance.

Chance me
