For the last three years the big Ivies have been trending consistently downwards in terms of admit rates. Is this expected to continue for the class of 2013, and if so, why?

Yes.

1) More students are in the high school Class of 2009 than ever before while the top colleges' class sizes numbers didn't change for probably the past 40+ years.
2) Students are applying to more colleges than ever before since college admissions are that much less certain.

In addition to what has been said above, students interested in good schools are preparing better (thinking about it earlier, getting EC's etc.), which will up the competitiveness.

Oh yes.

It will definitely be harder, lots of competition.

It'll be the hardest thing you've ever seen in your entire little life.

Lol.

Most of you guys forget that when you speak about how hard it will be, and how everyone is going to be preparing for it, YOU yourself are one of those guys who's preparing, and working hard towards getting in a good place. So give yourself a pat on the back, because you are competition to someone else out there.
