Will Class Rank ruin my chances?

Hey everybody! I have done fairly well in high school in my opinion and really want to get into College Park but my high school is EXTREMELY competitive and my class rank is not very good... do you think I'll get in?

SAT: Math: 760 Reading: 670 Writing: 650
UW GPA: 3.55
W GPA: 3.98
Class Rank: Top 50% (Top 43% but we do rank by Decile).

I am also involved in many sports and activities such as scouting, cross country, track, etc. Do you think I'll be able to get in and will Class Rank really hurt my application?

I don’t think it would effect your chance at admission to the University. Perhaps it could hurt with scholarships/honors college?

@Terp Guy alright thanks for the reply! It makes sense but damn that really sucks… oh well! What do you think my current chances of getting in are based on what I said above haha

Your SAT score is high enough . Your GPA and Class rank are low. I have no idea how truly tough your high school is compared to others. You could be just a lazy student that doesn’t do your class work. What were the SAT scores of the other 43%? Kind of hard to tell. I still think you have a good chance.

Top 50% of a class of 50 is very different than top 50% of a class of 700.

So, when you say you are at a very competitive school, and yet are only in the top 50% with an UW gpa of 3.55 and a W gpa of 3.98, you need to give more information including what the weighted scale is (4.0, 4.5, 5.0 etc), how many students are in your class and also how challenging your schedule is (ie, what level classes have you taken (how many AP, honors, etc) compared to how many AP classes are available at the school, since that may be what is affecting your rank as well).

At momof3greatgirls the average SAT score at my school is 1850 I think; my class is 315 people big and we seriously are one of the most competitive public schools in all of America. I don’t know how we fare in comparison to private ones but as far as public schools go, this is about as competitive as it gets. I have a 3.98 weighted which isn’t all that great since I took a lot of reg classes freshman year but have improved a lot since then.
