Taking a college course this summer, will contribute to your course rigor and GPA, not to your lower than average SAT score or possible ACT score. Your EC’s are competitive, so you need to focus on your test scores and UC essays to strengthen your application. I would work on these areas instead of taking these classes. A 1900+ SAT or 29+ ACT will give you much better chances at these schools. A college course will not hurt your chances unless you do not do well, but no great advantage will be gained except for course rigor plus you do not have to take a course at either UC. A local CC would be fine.
