I’m an international student aiming for US colleges. I’m 17 now, but I’ll be in the class of 2022 (admitting fall 2018 instead of fall 2016) because of my country’s school system.
i know that the SATs have been redesigned, and i don’t know which SAT to take. Say if for example I take the old SAT in January 2016, and used the results for fall 2018 admissions, will the colleges accept it? Or will they want the new SAT?
The reason why I’m asking this early is because if i have to take the new SAT i’ll be doing it in 2017, where i’ll also be doing the A-Levels around the same time and i don’t want the A-level and SAT preps to clash together (a lot of stress!), and if the the Jan’16 SAT is accepted i won’t be doing it in 2017 again
yeah i’m pretty sure they’ll accept it but check the websites of the colleges you’ll be applying to because some of m friends who are in the class of 2022(your class) which is also my class are going to use the old sat and not take the new one but just confirm through the colleges website
They should take them as long as the test was taken after you started the equivalent of 9th grade. Note that many students end up taking them more than once because they are not happy with their first set of scores. Could happen with you as well, so don’t assume for sure you won’t be retesting in 2017.
Most colleges have yet to say what they will do on the new test for applicants in future years. Though in the past when there were changes to the SAT, colleges generally continued to accept the old one for close to five years (College Board says its SAT test may no longer be reliable as a predictor of college success after 5 years), those changes were not like the current one where all parts of the the test are being significantly changed. Though I believe it likely that most colleges will continue to accept the old test for at least a few years, be aware that one major college, Penn, has already announced it will not accept the old SAT for entry class of 2018 and after.
