most colleges want 3 years of language. I have taken spanish 2 and 3 freshman and junior year and decided not to take it junior year. I will be taking spanish 4 senior year. how much will this affect my chances?
There is some risk. Without giving them a planned curriculum for your Senior year, they will see that you appear to not be continuing and may draw some conclusions. It would take some back-and-forth, but theoretically, they could admit you with contingencies.
@JustOneDad won’t colleges see my current senior schedule???
If you include it as part of your application, they will.
so do you think that as long as i include it on my application, that I won’t get dinged for not completing the required 3 years of language?
Hopefully, the admissions committee will be looking for it.
Most schools just ask for 2 years of world language. Top schools recommend 3 or 4. You already have level 3 achieved and you will have the 4th level in senior year, so you will be fine.
They are looking for the Level of language. Since you’ve already done Spanish 3 you’ve covered that.
Agreed. You are fine…you’ve taken level 3 and they will see you plan to take level 4.
Of course they will, I’m pretty sure every application asks for your current (i.e. Senior) courses. Certainly every application my kids filled out did.
Thanks so much. I was freaking out because the only way to take spanish 4 this year would be to take less rigorous courses due to weird scheduling (apush for us history - and us history would not be honors)
As did mine. To the OP, you would be fine taking Spanish 4 as a senior, although you might have some catching up to do from not having studied the language for a year.
