Will colleges compare me to my classmates?

Hey,

I wonder, will colleges I apply to compare me to my classmates who may have applied to the same college (HYP, and other top schools to be specific)? Or is the application mixed up and put into different categories?

How does this work if URM is factored in, or not?

Yes, they compare you to classmates. If you're a URM and all things are equal, you'll get the nod.

do they compare you directly to people from your school? or in your state?

In a sense, yes, they do compare you against people at your school by use of rank.
However, except in absurd cases, it won't matter who else from your school is applying--they won't decide that because X kids were accepted already from your school (ED or something? I don't know), you must automatically get rejected.

In the end, you're compared to people in your REGION.

school matters... if the skool doesnt rank and u get a 3.6... and 3 others get 4.0.. then u have a good chance of being rejected

What if i go to a stupid school where the choices for most kids are: NYIT, CW POST, Adelphi, or CC oh or HOFSTRA
do i see a resemblence there..oh yes i do
There all not that hard to get into LONG ISLAND schools
