Will Colleges Increase Scholarships? Had a 31 ACT, just got a 34 ACT

Hi there - Not sure if anyone has advice but I had applied to a number of schools with a 3.98 uw/5.17w GPA and an ACT of 31. I just got my scores back and got a 34 Composite on the December ACT! I did have the ACT send the scores automatically to all the schools I applied to.

I guess I’m asking if it’s appropriate to also email my admissions counselors at schools I’ve already been accepted to and let them know of this new score and ask for any consideration for new/different scholarship levels?

I also have some schools I applied RD and have not heard from so I will email those to ensure they add this new score.

Thanks for any input.

Congratulations on the higher score. I would certainly send them a reminder note about it. College admins are bureaucrats and this is the busiest time of the year for them. There is no harm making sure that they have all of your information in.

Thanks @Zinhead

If anyone can clarify - is ok to specifically thank then for the scholarship I was already offered and specifically ask in an email for them to re-review my scholarship award and offer me the next level up based on this new score? Some of the schools I applied to had higher awards for ACT of 32 and greater and I’d like to see if I can be reconsidered and get the next level up. I am paying for most of my own school so every little bit will help.

Some schools will automatically increase your award. I think you applied to Alabama. If so, you will get the Presidential award as soon as Bama gets your score.

There are some schools that will not adjust an award. Right now, I can’t remember which schools those are, but I remember some upset students in the past who applied early (which they didn’t have to do), got a better score by the scholarship deadline, but the school would not increase the award. Crazy, but true.

@mom2collegekids Thanks! Yes, I am very excited about Alabama so that is great. I had the act send my scores to them even before I took the test. Wow that is crazy about some schools noot adjusting but I guess I can see it happening. I am happy with were I’ve applied so just hoping they might up the awards they’ve given me, if appropriate. Sounds like Alabama and will so thank you.

@16tobias Congrats on your 34!!!

Thanks @suzyQ7 I was so excited when I saw the score report! I hope it makes a difference for me with some of the scholarships I received.

I think so. It will make a difference in the ones you havnt submitted too. 34 is an important threshold.

If you applied to Pitt and have not been notified of a merit scholarship, then I would send them the new scores.
If you did not apply, you can still until Jan 15 for merit consideration.

I think Temple also accepts higher scores later. On bottom of their scholarship chart it says “Deadline to appeal for additional scholarship monies based on new testing information is January 15”.

Just check with the schools and see if they adjust merit aid with new testing information.

@mommdc thanks, appreciate the info. Although Pitt and temple are good schools, neither is one I want to attend. The ones on my list are being helpful so far though. Thanks

No problem, just giving examples.
