Will colleges keep my file if I decide not to attend, but was accepted?

So that if I decide to attend this college after a horrible experience at my chosen college, they'll reactivate my file.

Honestly, if you’re afraid of having an “horrible experience” at the college you have chosen and you want to fall back on this other college, then maybe you should consider the other college. But to answer your question, I’m sure they have so much paperwork with new applicants each year, I’m sure they wouldn’t.

it’s easy enough to mention you were accepted while applying. i believe colleges have an online directory of sorts of students they’ve accepted.

I’ve heard that some schools keep files for up to five years, but don’t quote me on that.

When D1 applied as a soph transfer, none of the schools she had previously applied to had held on to the pieces of her application package. One school did say that had she asked them to hold her materials after fr decisions, they would have done so. In addition, there are some schools that hold on to applications, so it just depends on the school.
