Will Colleges see SAT scores for a 10th grader?

This discussion was created from comments split from: Does taking the SAT young help or hurt.

If my son needs to take the SAT or ACT test in the 10th grade in order to apply to a summer program (talent search), will the colleges see his score when he later applies to college a few years down the road?

He needs to take the test. Will the colleges be able to see the scores for a 10th grader?

@oak2maple, if he applies to a school that requires all test scores, then yes. I have not heard of CB expunging any test scores.

@oak2maple This is why you should start your own thread. People are replying to a 3 year old question instead of yours.

Yes, colleges will see a 10th grade SAT if they require you to send all scores, which many of them do.

Oops. Totally missed that this was an older thread. Some colleges require you send all your SAT’s that you have taken in high school. Some require you send all from either the ACT or the SAT if you take both. And some just want whatever you choose to send. You should consider this when you decide if you want to take it in 10th grade.

I wanted to add to my last comment above. A college cannot see your scores but if a student is opted into the college search program then the colleges can buy emails that contain, names, addresses and the fact that the student did sit for the exam. They can also request emails of those students who scored within a certain range. Nothing is completely private unless you opt out of everything. But it does serve a purpose. My daughter got many free applications from great colleges she was very interested in. And talent programs also pick students this way.
