will colleges take into account "how much you want to attend"?

If you show a college that you are serious about going there and really really want to get in, will that help your chances?

I want to transfer to UIUC after 60 hours at a CC with a near 4.0 GPA. Problem is, 7 years ago I flunked out of the first college I went to. There was a whole semester that I didn't even attend classes and did not withdraw appropriately.

I obviously hope UIUC can overlook my prior mistakes due to immaturity. The admission essay will be a chance for me to explain myself. The advisor at my CC who handles a lot of transfers to UIUC said I have a good chance, and encouraged me to apply.

Would it help for me to take classes for the sole purpose of transferring to UIUC? In another word, I can already get readmitted to my previous school and major right now. But I want to change to a different major at UIUC, and I took some of the courses that can transfer over. If I do not get in, then it'll be a waste. So will UIUC look at this and see my "dedication" to transferring to their school and give me some "credit" for that?

Listen to your advisor. Take classes that will serve you best no matter where you transfer. Taking courses that will only work for UIUC is probably not a big help.

Everyone wants to

; why do you think you would be different from anyone else who also wants to get in? As xraymancs said^^^, listen to your advisor.
