Will colleges understand if I failed one class?

My junior year I took Chemistry online but it was a huge mistake.I thought it would be easy, but I failed it. It was the first class I had taken online and the only class I had ever failed. Usually I am a straight A student. I do not plan on taking any more online classes and I also plan to retake the class my senior year in the classroom and get a much better grade. Do you think if I mention this in my college application they would understand that online are just not for me?

You will report which classes you will be taking Senior year on your application. so admissions will note that you plan to retake the course. I would not elaborate any further on the failed grade and I would not try to make any excuses.

Nearly everyone messes up somewhere at some time. You should still be able to get into many very good universities (assuming everything else is good). This might hurt you at the top 20 schools, but you should be fine. If there is one F among a field of A’s then they will know that there was some sort of anomaly. The important thing is that you don’t let it throw you off of the good path that you have been on and are still on.

I agree with @Gumbymom, don’t mention it. They will see you you are retaking it. They will see that you are doing well everywhere else.

@DadTwoGirls @Gumbymom Thank you for the replies! They are very reassuring.
