will colleges understand?

hey guys.
As we continue to talk about our schedules for next year, one thing comes up for me and that is that my school only offers 4 AP classes. Yeah guys just 4. Out of which I can only take 3 (calc, stats, spanish) because the fourth one is french, and im not in french.

So im wondering will colleges take this into consideration when I apply and I do not have nearly as many APs as you guys have?

btw, i am self studying a few APs to try to compensate for this loss.

They will definitely take this into consideration, as you have taken the most rigorous courses available. The self-studying also helps as well. Good luck.

Hopefully your GC will be providing the colleges a profile of your HS, which should show that only 4 AP classes were available.

Try looking into taking some classes at your local community college special admission.

If your counselor doesn’t provide a profile, send a run-down of your school as a second attachment (the first being your resume).
My school only offers 3–Calculus, English, and APUSH. I’ve taken APUSH (Junior year) and will be taking the other two next year, along with four others… self-study and courses online. I’m positive colleges take into account what is offered at your school, just so everything comes out fair.

Yes, colleges will take that into account and you will not be at any disadvantage whatsoever, even if you don’t self study or go to a nearby college for classes. In fact, that extra step would show excellent initiative.

Totally. I was at a college info session this evening, and the rep from Harvard said, “We look at how you challenge yourself for what is offered at YOUR SCHOOL - i repeat - YOUR SCHOOL.” She really stressed the your school part lol, that wasnt my repeating, it was hers. Basically if you take 3/3 APs that you could feasibly take, that will look very good. Do not worry.

But in addition, maybe you could try self-studying something or taking a college course? Schools do like to see exterior involvement. This year I could only take three at my school (three AP limit), so I took Calc AB, Physics, and US History. My physics class was TERRIBLE, so i couldnt take the AP exam without failing. I instead took the AP english language exam. Kind of self-study minus the studying lol. If you are a good english student that is a good idea; if you can get 700+ on the SAT CR/W sections you can get a 3+ on the AP English Language no problem (as long as you look at the format of the test a bit beforehand).
