Will Columbia understand low grades if there is a reason

I was born in NYC and moved to Israel for Jr High and Hgh School and my high school never gave me a break with the language so I did all my classes in a language I was still learning (no previous knowledge b4 moving)

My grades are good for my countries standards but here they encourage harder classes even if your grades are lower so I have around a 90 average but I have a few 60s and a 70 in subjects that hebrew was a major factor. I have really strong and even some unique ECs, my teachers love me and I even taught english at my school as a raegular teacher in 11th and 12th, and a 1440 (m 730 v 710) SAT1 and Im taking the SAT2 in december. Will they consider me?

those are pretty good extenuating circumstances.

i agree... you are a pretty interesting candidate

i'd like to meet you, hopefully the adcom will feel that way too :-)

thanx, this is a really good forum
Im probably the second or third person from school to ever apply to a top US school so I dont have many people to ask for help

Thanks for the kind words, L.E.K. Be sure to explain the situation in your application. If a recommender could reinforce this, e.g., as part of the recommendation, describe what a great job you did in spite of the initial language barrier, that might help too. Good luck!

I have a really good teacher who helped me through school and understands how hard it is since he's been moved here from the US almost twenty years ago and he stills has problems with the language

I think he'll help me explain alot of it in a recommendation
