Daughter got e-mail today offering her transfer option for 2010 for AEM. Was not specific as to whether anyone got off waitlist or if it was closed, though I doubt they would offer the transfer option at this late date if they were going to waitlist.

I got the transfer option for CALS. As of now, I don’t think I’ll accept it. I’m already set on my school…and even though its ranked a lot lower than Cornell, its so instilled in me that I’m going there.

Also, my major will be science if I actually decide to go to CALS, and as of now, I don’t know what my major is yet. In addition, CALS makes you take bio and writing in your freshman year and maintain 3.5gpa b4 letting you transfer in.

It just seems too abrupt for me.

Son got a letter today saying he will not be being offered a spot off the wait list. It was for CAS. It said he could apply to transfer in a year, but I don’t think he will. Since I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, he’s very happy to be going to BC as am I. Good luck to everyone for success at whatever school you chose.

Finally the process is over!!! Didn’t matter either way, I was going to Duke. Only thing that sux is that I can never say I got accepted to an Ivy. O well. Duke still beats the hell out of Cornell, even AEM.

Strange that Cornell mentions the transfer numbers and asks for a transfer in the rejection. It was almost like “hey, you’re smart! please study hard for a year or two then apply and we’ll take you.” Every other school I applied to has like a 0% acceptance rate for transfers (Stanford 20 out of 1500+, Yale 20 out of 1500+, Duke 28 out of 1500+). Its just weird that Cornell encourages transfers so greatly.

ITS DUKE 2013 BABY!!!

the reason is because cornell does not have the dorm space to house 3500 freshman on north campus, so they limit the entering class size to about 3000-3150. They have enough space to graduate about 3500 per class though so they encourage transferring.

Like jhill’s daughter, I received an email a few days ago advising me that the Transfer Option was extended to me (CALS AEM). I am obviously thrilled . . . and am definitely gonna sign up for it. Well, I am pleased to be able to live closer to home for one more year with many of my HS friends . . . and if all goes well, then hopefully off to Ithaca in Fall 2010. Yey!!

COLMOM, I am with your son; I did not get into to CAS either. At least I know now. And like you, I also believe everything happens for a reason and I am more than grateful and happy to have been accepted at BC.

I would also like to thank everybody on these wait list threads who shared information, and wish you all the best of luck at whatever school you attend. Obviously if you are/were a serious candidate for Cornell, you have a bright future. Have a great summer!
