Will C's and D's with a couple B's get me into a state university?

Hi, For the last 2 months, maybe more, I have been ridiculously stressed out over the fact that I don’t believe I will make it into my state university (University of Maine Orono), let alone anywhere I really want to go out of state. I had a’s and b’s freshman year, a’s and b’s minus a c and d in sophomore year. And this first semested, I averaged 2 b’s (APUSH and Hon Spanish 3), 3 c’s (Pre Calculus, Ap Lang, Photography) and 1 d (Ap Chem). I have had almost every class show progression from 1st to 2nd quarter and I believe this third quarter will be better as well. I have been asking all my friends who go to UMO, parents, some teachers, if they think I stand a good shot. Most have said yes, but I just need someone on here to truely give me honest advice on whether or not my upward grade trend, my good grades freshman + sophomore year, and strong extracurriculars (I am a high level runner in cross country and track, I am a candy striper in the summer, I am in 2 honors clubs/societies) will be good enough to make it into University of Maine at least. Please also give me advice on what I can do before next fall to make my application look good. Thank you.

I’m giving it to you straight–what can you do before next fall to make a stronger application? Study. Simple as that.

Junior year is the most important year to your application. Give it all you got!

I agree with the above poster. Don’t stress and put in the work! If you don’t end up receiving admission then you can always go the CC route then transfer. Good Luck!

Yes, control what you can control. Work hard, treat people well and things will turn out best for you. The same will be true for college. Empower yourself, embrace opportunities, be helpful and kind. Good luck.
