will dartmouth take waitlists this year?

Heyy guys....Dartmouth uses the waitlist every year right? Do you guys think that they will go to the waitlist this year even if it may be a smaller number?

thanks so much

Maybe, maybe not. I was also waitlisted, and I called the admission office and they said they won’t know until two weeks after May 1st.

It’ll be interesting to see the yield. D accepted quite a few kids from our ‘hood this year who just threw an RD app to Hanover sight-unseen bcos it was an Ivy and required no extra essays. Since they were strong applicants and recieved other Ivy offers, not one is going to attend. It’s only notable bcos D received few apps from our ‘hood in previous years. Thus, on the one hand, Dartmouth’s outreach is working, but on the other hand da’ kids ain’t goin’.

I wonder if they don’t in general expect low yield from the W. Coast. We have six accepted kids in my NY office and 5 are attending.

I expect them to have a higher yield this year primarily due to financial aid initiatives… :P

For some reason, I do not think that the economy has that much effect. If someone were to get accepted into Princeton, Harvard and Dartmouth, but Dartmouth gave them more money, would that person really give up the higher ranked schools. Money is not everything. But personally, I would give up Princeton and Harvard to go to Dartmouth. Dartmouth is the best  !

Well, their finaid initiative has lured ME in… ;)

Haha mee too :)

I hope the increased yield (if there is one) does not affect the possibility of using the waitlist this year. I keep seeing articles that say students are angry at Dartmouth for not giving them enough financial aid. So, I don’ know. Let’s see what happens!

Hope, hope, hope!

I really need it cos I need LOTS of aid and I hear its hard to get in off the waitlist if i do (especially since I’m international).

How on eart could an increased yield not impact going to the waitlist??? You must be reading some very old articles Emek, Dartmouth has one of the best aid programs in the Country.

I was reading articles from US News and Princeton Review. They could have been old, lol. For the waitlist thing, I am just creating hope from anything that I can hmom5.

Read my old post/this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/dartmouth-college/689679-chances-getting-off-dartmouth-waitlist.html#post1062287652

as a ex-waitlisted student who lucked out, all I can advice you to do is not worry about it and just wait it out (i know its no fun)

Dartmouth expected my parents to pay $23,000 while looking at the same aid information as Yale, who expected less than $5000. It may be good in that it has no loans, but it isn’t necessarily as generous as it could be, or would be expected to be.

I was wait listed at Dartmouth as well as Northwestern and Johns Hopkins. Any one hear from them ?

i hear Johns Hopkins probably won’t be using its waitlist–I hope it’s not the same for Dartmouth!!

^^ whered you hear that…

P goes there.

as a Dartmouth alum and now a parent of a kid who went through the WL agony, i think its important for you to stay FACTUAL on this WL stuff. if you search CC using the key word waitlist you can keep up on the facts (and see the rumors) coming in across the country on almost all the important schools concerning WL in both the parents forum and general forums, as well as PUBLISHED historical information. I wish all of you good luck in this process. Dartmouth is truly a great school. This year should be interesting from a WL perspective given the wealth of talent they have to choose from AND the astonishing number of apps they received. If you do get in, MAKE THE MOST OF IT…and if you don’t, remember this is just one stop along the road in your life, not the end point. This insane fixation on the Ivies just because they are Ivies is very sad, and quite honestly, unhealthy for all you talented kids…
