I am going to transfer other colleges and have already applied cornell, rochester, and emory. After submitting all material of transfering, I feel not so confident to my transfer. Therefore I want to do something to increase my opportunities of getting offers. Would donations to these universites be helpful? If is, in common experience, how much should i donate?(money is from my parents and if i donate, i need to use the name of my parents or my?)

Well it would be awfully hard to reject you if there was a new building named after you…

I’ve heard rumors that donors can sometimes finagle some extra consideration that route, but is very frowned upon.

Plus when you are talking about donating, I’m thinking they expect like hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars. They probably should have gotten it before you applied as well, not after.

My 2 cents, it’s really garbage for someone to use money to get an edge in admissions. Stand on your own two feet and get in through the sweat of your own brow. It’s much more ethical and satisfying from a personal standpoint.

Donating for help with admissions is usually before the process and always in large sums. It wouldn’t be helpful and you should save the money for the college you do/will go to.

Yes, huge donors can sometimes ask for special consideration. However, since you’re asking, it’s obvious that you are not familiar with this and your family doesn’t make these type of donations normally. The saying goes: if you have to ask, you probably can’t afford it.

And yes, we’re talking about millions of dollars.
