Will dropping my calculus class affect me chances of keeping my college acceptances

I am a high school senior and I have already taken all required math courses. I am failing calculus pretty and right now and I am already in other AP/Honors courses as well as 6 hours of Dual Credit through my high school. My major will not even ask for calculus because it is kinesiology or exercise science. My top 2 choices for colleges is University of Houston an UT @ San Antonio and I have already been accepted to these schools. Do you think I need to continue failing calculus or drop it and choose a different math class. Please ask for more info if you need more info, I am kind of freaking out and the deadline is in a week.

This answer has pros and cons. If you drop it, it looks bad on your transcript. It you don’t drop it, the f will look bad on your transcript. Best case scenerio is you study the crap out of calculus, get an A on the final (normally 25% of your total grade), and see if that brings you up to at least a D. Then see if your counselor will replace the D with a P (this means passed). Honestly, i’d say talk to your counselor.

Call the schools and ask.

There was recently a similar discussion on the Class 2017 parents board, if you want to read the responses.

Generally, colleges do not like it if your final high school transcript shows a different schedule from what you reported previously, or if you earned a D or F in any course. This may be detailed in the conditions attached to your admission offer.

If you do change schedule or earn a D or F, it is best to inform the college before it makes the admission decisions, rather than surprising the college next summer and possibly causing the college to rescind your admission.

How is the deadline this late? Or would that be for a W?

I think you may be fine. The liability would be a STEM kid dropping an essential course like calc. It seems you have rigor. (And OP said he’s accepted) Yes, call. But have a good (brief) explanation, other than needing more time for other classes.

If you have already been admitted, ask the college directly to see if a D or F or changed schedule will cause your admission offer to be rescinded.

Call and ask

Agree, the only way to know with certainty is to call the schools. Ask if your acceptance would be jeopardized by either a withdrawal or a D/F. Try to determine the best course of action.

Have you tried things like seeing the teacher after school, getting a tutor, going throughthe Khan academy videos etc.?

I had this same issue. I worked with my teacher A LOT and that really really helped my grade and my relationship with her. I think that if you really work with your teacher and communicate with them, something will work out
