Will DS Fit in at Vassar?

I’d say Middlesex.

Yes.

I thought I would answer the question I posed earlier this year given that my son did join Vassar this fall. He has only been there for 3 months but I think I can safely say that he has fit in and he has fit in very well. He has a wide circle of friends and is very happy. It took a few weeks for him to find a critical mass of kindred spirits but once that happened he was quickly introduced to others and his circle of friends continues to grow. He has been struck by the diversity of students at Vassar, even though he came from an urban, public HS with a diverse student body. He is delighted to have a very diverse set of friends. The small classes have been a real boon and the institution appears to be very well run. He has also found that there are quite a few good eateries within walking distance of campus, including an all-night diner (the Acropolis) and, of course, a bar (don’t ask!) that students head to on weekends.

So don’t let any stereotypes about Vassar deter your kids from giving it a careful look if they are interested in SLACs!

The Acropolis has been there forever. The same family owns another diner the other side of town (the Palace). I get wistful thinking of all the great old places that used to be there in the 70s-80s (The Dutch Cabin, Squires East, Frivolous Sal’s, the Little Brauhaus). Glad he’s happy.

Covid also seems to have taken a toll, as it has everywhere. The BurgerFi outside campus shut down last month. The Hudson Valley Post has a depressingly long list of establishments that have shut down over the past year.

At least since 1983. And I quote “what type of gravy do you want on your fries”.

After a long evening of Genesee Ale the turkey gravy was the logical choice.

Glad to hear such a positive update!! GO BREWERS!!

Thank you for sharing the article from The Hudson Valley Post. This article illustrates one of the effects that Covid has had on our communities. Very sad.
