When I visited UChicago I loved the campus, atmosphere, strong academics, and environment. At the info-session, the admissions officer mentioned that applying EA was like asking UChicago out on a date without the commitment of ED, which she described as marriage :) But I've been hearing that applying EA can actually hurt you, since the applicant pool is stronger? So should I apply EA? If so are my chances good?

stats wise: 94 GPA
SAT is a 1480/1600 (710cr/770math) SAT IIs MathII/Bio/US: 760/730/730
(I'm taking the ACT in September, and Math II (again) and Lit in October
-ECs: Varsity Tennis Team Captain, DECA Regional President, Model UN Chair/Officer, Mock Trial Team Captain, Sitar (Indian Instrument) and Saxophone 6 yrs
-As a side note writing is one of my stronger attributes. I got an 800 on SAT Writing (not that that helps with essays), and I am a pretty good creative essay writer.

Unlike with ED, almost everyone should apply EA. The only reason not to is if you’re expecting to have a much stronger app after your first semester of senior year. For example, someone with really bad grades junior year due to perhaps a death in the family, would want to show that he or she can cut it academically with straight-As fall term.

A sidenote: Not trying to rain on your parade, but I don’t think Writing scores correlate well with actual quality writing…

Yeah I totally get the thing you said with writing, idk why I said that. But essay writing is one of my stronger points, so I’m hoping that helps me with UChicago

i think you’ll do fine with either EA or RD…i did RD and am glad i waited (i found out a lot more about the school, learned a lot about myself through the process and was able to convey that in essays, and it was just less stressful), but your situation might be different
