Will Early Acceptance of Admission Offer Affect Potential UCF Scholarships?

Our S just received his admission acceptance email from UCF and has decided he wants to be a Knight! He asked if he should click “accept” and my instinct is for him to wait and see what types of merit scholarships he may be offered before officially accepting. Would love to hear some opinions regarding how he should proceed. Thanks!

@Tbosmom Good question. S is a freshman at UCF Engineering this fall (Burnett Honors College). He received his acceptance on October 18, 2016 and a scholarship offer (Knights Achievement Award) on November 17th. I don’t believe he clicked “accept” until he received the scholarship offer, because we had heard the same thing about scholarships. You may not hear about scholarship awards for a while, though, as I think it may not be until a bit later in the fall when they begin being awarded. I’ve heard UCF has only a limited amount of scholarship money/funds/awards/etc. so it was good that your S applied early. S applied early also so he could have a decent shot at scholarship awards as well. P.S. It’s still early, but so far, he loves UCF (out-of-state/Virginia).

All the best to you!

Thanks so much! I’ll let him know! Go Knights!

@Tbosmom just wondering when did your S send in his application? Just wondering how long the process took. Thanks!!

Did he get his email today? Labor Day?

@Tbosmom when you get a second, add your son and stats to the 2018 acceptance thread, please.

My kids both were given pegusus gold several weeks after getting their acceptances very early in the fall . These are based on merit. I don’t believe merit scholarships are related to when you accept your offer of enrollment. Neither of my kids confirmed their enrollment until spring…after um, uf, etc sent out decisions.

Thanks, everyone for your replies! @ilovefloridamom his application was complete by August 10th but it took until August 25th before his myUCF account said they received both his high school and dual enrollment transcripts were processed. He received his acceptance email Sept. 1st.

I would wait and see about merit scholarships. However, I do recommend putting down the housing deposit ASAP if he’s planning on living on campus - housing fills up pretty quickly and if he wants a shot at getting a certain type of room/building, his chances are a lot better the earlier he puts down that deposit.
