I am attending the University of New Orleans in the fall. I have TOPS, and UNO had given me a scholarship paying for any tuition that TOPS does not cover, a mean plan, and $500 towards books. Basically it is covering everthing except housing. My family received a 0 as our familys EFC, my question is will FAFSA pay for my housing? and does it matter if it is on or off campus?

FAFSA doesn’t cover anything, it just tells the schools you apply for what your EFC is which helps the schools decide how much aid to provide. Has the school provided you with an award letter?

No, but there is no reason why we wouldn’t get like the Pell grant. Could I use that for housing ?

You can use the Pell and any other type of Federal aid to assist with covering the costs of housing. However, the Pell Grant may not be sufficient to cover the cost by itself. You may need to seek additional sources of funding or use some student loan eligibility.

You can use student loans to cover your housing. I plan to use federal loans to cover my apartment expenses. Try to get a federal student loan if possible.

If living off campus costs less than living in a dorm (by the school’s estimate), your grant(s) may be reduced by the difference (if part of your grant(s) covers housing).

Schools base aid on their COA. Some schools have a different amount in the COA for off or on campus housing. If their estimated COA for someone living off campus is the same as that for living on campus then your aid will not change. If the estimated COA for someone living off campus is less than for living on campus then it will reduce your aid.
