Will failure to receive IB Diploma rescind my offer from UIUC?

I got accepted to UIUC with Chemical Engineering major. So, it is quite embarrassing to say, but I failed IB diploma. I got 24 points out of 45 and I failed because my total IB score for HL subjects was one point away from 12. This made me so anxious and concerned about getting rescinded from UIUC. My final transcript has been maintained fairly well, only dropping one grade in a few subjects. I don’t even have Cs on my transcript. Only Bs.

I have sent a letter to the admission of office at UIUC regarding this topic. And the reply was this:

"Your admission is conditional based on successful completion of your senior year courses. If your grades are lower than expected it is possible that your offer of admission would be rescinded. However, we do not rescind offers of admission without contacting the student for an explanation regarding their grades.

In previous years, we did not require that students receive their IB Diploma as long as they successfully graduated from high school. I have contacted our Assistant Director of International Admission to confirm this and will contact you once I hear back."

Then when this admission officer replied me back once again:

“I heard back from the Assistant Director and as long as your final IB scores are sent to our Office of Measurement and Evaluation we do not require your IB diploma. However, as previously stated, if your IB scores are very low we may rescind your offer of admission.”

After hearing this from the admissions officer, I am super anxious. My IB scores are super low. I am not so sure what range of score is considered super low, but I am pretty sure 24 is one of them. Nowadays, I can’t even sleep because I am too scared. Will the university rescind be for this? Please help me…

Also, if I get to be rescinded, what are some good excuses to make the admissions offices seem like I had some reasons behind this.

Hey! So I’m almost an IB student and I’m going into UIUC this year as a freshman. I also lost my diploma by 1 point, but my overall score is a 30. So I’ve read some blogs online and they say that most US colleges don’t require an IB diploma, as long as you graduated high school. Since UIUC’s admission policy states that as long as our high school grades are consistent throughout, they won’t rescind their offer, it mostly depends on whether you were getting scores around 24 throughout your 2 years of IB. If so, and UIUC accepted you with scores similar to your final score, losing a diploma shouldn’t be impact enough for them to kick you out.

That being said, please update me on what happened in your situation, because I’m also super anxious about whether they’re going to rescind my offer or not.

Hope this helps.

Also, if they ask you for a reason for your grades, I don’t recommend lying as they’ll see it as making up excuses.

Are you a US student?
