we submitted the fafsa yesterday for our dtr under the "will file" status and we used estimated numbers. Will they use this info to prepare the fin. packages for her? or will they wait until the "filed" status be submitted? I've always heard that it's best to do it early.

just wondering why they would have a "will file" function if they wont do anything until it's officially filed.

thanks!!!

the above post is referring to our taxes for the purpose of the fafsa information

They won’t prepare a final offer but it will give them a heads up as to what aid to possibly earmark for her.

Actually most schools WILL prepare a financial aid award for your child (our kid had THREE EA financial aid awards prepared based on “will file” estimated FAFSA).

HOWEVER…any financial aid award you get using the will file status, and estimates will not be finalized by the college until you actually amend and resubmit the FAFSA using the REAL numbers from your 2011 tax return. So get that done ASAP.

And yes, your awards can go DOWN…if your income goes UP.

Filing the FAFSA using the “will file” status gets your child’s application in the queue so to speak. This is especially important for limited funding awards like the Perkins, SEOG and Work Study which have limited amounts of money allocated to schools and are awarded on a first filed first served basis.

I guess I better go back to CC 101 or stop posting with my phone in the middle of the night just because I can’t sleep. :o

Thumper is right-

thank you both so much! it’s greatly appreciated
