Will Freshman Year Screw Me Over?

Hey, I'm currently a high school Sophomore and I already have my (possibly naive) eyes on schools like Cornell/Cooper Union/Carnegie Mellon for a potential dual-major in Physics and Computer Science. However, since I've heard that these colleges place emphasis on grades, I'm kinda scared. I was a very crappy student first term freshman year, ending it with an average of 85.5. However, I managed to pull my transcript average up to a 91.9 (this past term I got a 95.9 average). Will colleges like Cornell scrutinize my poor performance freshman year or will they look at the improvement? I'm working hard to keep up the 95+ trend to pull up my transcript grade.

Thanks in advance!

Freshman year typically isn’t weighted as heavily as the other years of HS because students are learning to adjust to the HS environment.

All right, thanks, and I’ll keep that in mind for later.
