As a prospective student wishing to get into the fall 2007 into USC, i was thinking about getting a small part time job for about a month till the holidays at a bookstore. when it comes to filling out the fasfa or any other fin aid (please mention) will it hurt my chances of aquiring more money or what? thanks!

That's almost impossible to answer without knowing the full context of your financial aid application, as well as any merit-based awards USC or other schools may offer to you. Broadly, though, it doesn't seem as if you can earn enough at a part time job between now and the holidays to seriously compromise your FAFSA calculations.

Generally, working is never a "bad" idea, as long as it does not take time away needed for studying, and as long as it doesn't compromise other school-related matters. It can also be an excellent avenue to learning time management skills, developing relationships that will help you later - for example, if you take the part time job until the holidays and build a good relationship with the manager, perhaps you will be able to return over spring break, or over the summer to earn money to use at college.

well from what i have been told by a financial aid adviser if a student works and gains over $2400 the year that they are applying for college, for every $ that is over $2400 you get $1 taken off from your financial aid

According to the finaid EFC calculator the student has an income protection allowance of $3000 and anything over that you are expected to contribute 50% toward your EFC. Also any assets you have (so if you save part of your earnings) they take 20% toward your EFC.
