Basically, my community college sucks, and they're just now getting around to doing my IGETC certification. I've already gotten into some UC's, and I'm still waiting for UCLA and UCB. Will getting an IGETC certification now make any difference? Will having not had the IGETC certification affect me adversely?

you need to have the IGETC certified before transfer not before you apply. a lot of people are using thier last semester to complete it. i think.:). now i am worried.

Yes, now is when you should get your certification. Don’t worry, you are in good shape. You likely need to do it by July 15 (seems to be a common date among some UC’s).

At my CC they told us not to turn in the IGETC certification form until we know which UC we’re accepted to/going to, so I’m still waiting on UCLA.
The reason being that the IGETC cert form also requires a transcript request that you must fill out and send to the UC that you will be attending.
Is it like that for you guys too?
I think they (the UC you choose to attend) only care about seeing the actual “IGETC certification” on your transcript… unless those stupid admissions&records people are giving me wrong info lol

UCLA will require you to get your IGETC certified sometime after you transfer. I think they just want proof from your community college that you did everything. Anyways, just get it done now, so you don’t have to go back in the future.

Get it done know and hope that your CC is fully functioning.

Last year I requested mine in January. I sent Berkeley my final transcripts in early June. In mid July I got an email saying they never got my transcripts and my admission would be revoked if they didn’t receive them in 7 days. So I called and tried to figure out what happened.

Long story short - My CC was “bombarded” with certifications and was delayed - so my transcripts weren’t certified until July - It took 7 months and I almost got kicked out of Berkeley

IGETC is a recommended way of completion of GE’s. It is helpful to fulfilling the lower divison coursework but is not required. You can still be accepted if you do not finish the IGETC plan as long as you’ve done the necessary transferrable units and prereqs.

I have no idea if it really gives you a leg up on transferring. I just recently found out that I’m IGETC certified this year (freshmen) even though I skipped ENG 1A.

I have no idea how I can be certified if I skipped Eng 1A and took Eng 1B insted.

I finished all my IGETC requirements in Fall, but I haven’t applied for my IGETC cert yet…I can do that now right?

Your CC might have a final date for IGETC certification. For example, my CC’s last day to turn in requests for IGETC certification was March 30.

oh no…I hope my school didn’t have a deadline…I didn’t see it anywhere…I go to foothill college, and it just says submit the request form at the end of the final quarter I’m there…Are any other CC’s like that too?

Dear Lord.

I had my IGETC certification verification turned in since like…August, and I barely got it in March. X___________X;;

Now to do the official certification with my Honor’s Counselor…need to set up an appointment! Thank you for this thread…X__X;;;
