Will going to a CC kill me?

Okay so I'm a senior and my GPA is 2.5. I screwed up and any four years schools I get into this year are going to be crap. My SAT's aren't that great and are probably embarrassing to CC standards.

I want to do MD/PhD after college at a prestigious school. I live in NJ so I want to do the UMDNJ/Princeton MD/PhD.

So, I mean, I may have to do a year of grad school before applying because it's hard to get research done while at a CC

But let's jut talk about undergrad here.

I want to go to school's like Yale, MIT, CalTech, Notre Dame, etc.

Will going to a community college for a year (or two) and obtaining a 4.0 make much of a difference?

It will make a difference (most of the schools you listed accepted transfers at a lower rate than freshman, Caltech being the exception) but in any case it is probably your best option.

If your CC offers challenging classes in your area of study, then it will allow you to get research.

Kids do get in from community colleges. You’ll need to do something besides get a 4.0, however. And keep in mind those schools will still be looking at SAT scores, so retake.

hmom,

I will be starting my 2nd year at a CC in the fall and will be applying to NU, UIUC, NYU-Stern, and UChicago with probably a 3.8. Would you say I should retake the ACT, being that I only scored a 23 in HS? I’ve heard that some schools look down upon it, is this true?

^ You should ask the colleges you are applying to. There is conflicting advice on CC. Some say it can help your application, some say it has no impact, and others say it is required.

i think if you want the best schools, you better work your butt off for it. a 2.5 isn’t going to cut anything.

Absolutely. You should shoot for whatever the average for freshmen admits is. Does not matter at many state schools but matters a lot at most privates.
