Will having a "C" on transcript will affect UC Berkeley Admission?

Hello everyone,

So, the title itself is my main question. I got all of my grades for Spring 2013. I have two A's and one C. Those two A's are from my Ochem II and Advance College Writing classes. My C is from my Calculus II class. By the way, I am majoring in chemistry. Will having this C on my transcript automatically remove my change of getting in Cal? So far, I don't have any C's on my transcript (this is the only C I have on my transcript). Should I retake the class or try to get an A on calculus III instead?
I just had a very bad professor. He got sick and was out of the class for a few class days. When he went back, we only had three days to cover the specific chapter and then a midterm. I was also sick during one our midterms. He didn't let me took that midterm because I don't have the "papers" to prove I was sick. The worst part was he combined our last midterm and final. So basically, we took two exams on the final day.

Can you give me any advice on this one? I don't want to give up my dream of getting into Cal.

You may not want to give up the dream, but objectively speaking, maybe you should.
Admission into Cal is difficult. A C will make you look stupid.

What are your ECs like?

Please consider USC Dornsife as well, provided you can afford it.

To Legoo, yeah, I know… Having A’s then a C really look stupid to me. I guess I’ll just do my best on my remaining preparatory classes and try to enroll at Cal but as just one of my options.

To Catria, EC? You mean Extra Curricular right? I did two volunteer works at chemistry stockroom and tutoring center as a tutor. I am also a member of SACNAS and MESA (I don’t know though if you know them.

I will be working as a group tutorfor Ochem II next semester and be a tutor in chemistry and some lower division math in MESA. And probably do some volunteer works while taking 12 units next semester.

I assumed you want to go to Cal as a transfer… am I right?

One C won’t kill you

To Catria, yes, I want to go to Cal as a transfer. What do you think about my situation?

To luminalcoin8, so you mean I have a chance of getting in even having a C on my transcript? I’m majoring in chemistry which is kind of like one of Cal special department. That is why I’m really anxious about my grades especially sciences and math.

A little late to the game, but I assume you still want input, yes?
Well here’s mine: one “C” will not kill you. Jesus, even if you had a few D’s not one person on this entire site could predict whether Cal would reject you or not because we are not admissions counselors! I think that your two A’s certainly are impressive. It is kind of unfortunate that your C is in math when your majoring in Chem but it is totally overlook-able if you demonstrate your ability over all, which I trust you do and will continue to do!
Best of luck!
