...my total writing score is a 770? I just didn't write a very good essay on that day.

I'm also a bit worried that admissions officers will think my 8 is incongruous with the quality of my personal statements and supplemental essays, and therefore get suspicious about the validity of my personal essays.

Thanks for your input. It’s just that I’ve read, in a couple different places, that colleges do use the essay itself for admissions and for determining whether or not the student got a lot of help on personal essays.

No, I do no think so. I just heard that colleges have access to your essay. They do not necessarily read it, especially if they see you have a 770 writing score.

somes colleges do look at the SAT essay, but that’s quite rare - admissions officers already have enough reading materials!

also, colleges know what it’s like to write under pressure - it’s totally different from how you might write in your personal statement
I wouldn’t worry.

also you did better than I did - the writing section and my 9 essay kept my 2360 from turning into a 2400

whoa dumplings, how did u get a 2360?? for my first time, i got a 2220, and I am taking the SAT in June again. u wanna give any tips/hints that helped get wat u got, like anything u studied,or wat materials u used?? thnx

yeah I got 2290 the first time
760 math, 800 CR, 730 writing 10 essay
I was going to stick with this score, but thankfully Asian parents pushed me to take it again

800 math, 800 CR, 760 writing 9 essay
I mostly did hard math problems out of the Kaplan 2400 book, I guess it helped?
also just practiced writing section more - I suck at writing under pressure
in hindsight i should’ve practiced writing more essays that way…

I think some colleges (Dartmouth, for example), use the SAT/ACT essay for placement, but not admission. And I’m sure they just use it as a part of ur placement. I’m assuming u got an 80 MC to have that high of a writing score, and that looks really good too. Colleges understand that you’re not going to write a perfect essay every time, and also that each essay is graded subjectively. I wouldn’t worry about it…a 770 is very good.
