I was just wondering if it'll look bad if a person applying to a college has too many extra-curriculars - especially when they all have to do with different things. I think I read somewhere that colleges like to see people who have one single passion and pursues that passion in high school. (For ex. If a person really likes science and is good at science, all his clubs will predominantly have to do with science).

I am only asking this because so far I will be the President and/or officer of a few clubs (2-4) and also a member in a few others (1-2). However all of my clubs are actually rather "disorganized". So far I will be the:
- President of two charity clubs and two volunteering club
- an officer in one other charity club and the Pre-Med club
- a layout associate in the newspaper club
- a member on the art board for my school magazine

So as you guys can probably tell, I will be doing a lot - even too much - extra curriculars but I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I joined all of these clubs because I thought that all of them were interesting and seemed fun and I didn't realize just how many clubs I am actually doing. But now that I actually think about it and list it all down, I realize that perhaps I'm actually doing too many clubs and none of them seem to have anything in common with each other.

My question is:
1) Is doing too many extra curriculars / clubs bad when it comes to applying for a college?
2) Are my clubs "too messy" and "lacking focus"?
3) What should I do about my clubs then? I like all of them too much to quit but I don't want to do so many that it looks like I'm only doing it for college.
