Will I be able to change my major after the application deadline?

Hello!
I put on my college application that I was Undecided on a major to take back in October when I first submitted it and now I know what I want to major in (Multimedia Journalism)!

I had to email the college asking them to change my major from undecided to Multimedia Journalism which I did 3 days ago but they never sent me an email back, and the application deadline is tomorrow. Do you know if I will be able to change my major after the application deadline?

Thanks so much!

It doesn’t matter if you’re applying to a school that allows changes in major (like, every school). Because asking teenagers what they want to study for the next 4 years is ridiculous, they will change their minds.

It is not an issue of whether you can change stated major but when. You need to explore the college’s site to see what it says about changing desired majors after you apply because what colleges allow varies. To give an example, UIUC does not let an applicant change unless he does so by January 12 and if you blow that date and are admitted you cannot change in most cases until after first year in college. Others are far more lenient. Moreover, it is typical when making a change for there to be some official form on the college’s site to submit so you need to look for it. If you cannot find anything, you will have to call the college and determine exactly what is allowed and what is needed.

Unless the school has a separate school of journalism which you would need to be admitted to it probably doesn’t matter.

You should be able to change your major especially if you haven’t declared one yet. I’m not sure how things work at other colleges, but the colleges I applied to did not require that I declare a major until my junior year. So unless you need to be admitted to the department or school of journalism at the time of general admission, you should be fine.
