Will I be able to explain a medical condition?

Hello!

I'm a current high school junior taking two AP classes and I will be taking 4 next year a long with a class at the local college. I made all A's my 10th grade year, but had a c(84) and b(88) by freshman year. This year I have all A's, and all through out high school I have been in nothing but honors classes. However, I have really bad EC because of severe migraines and I have spent the past two years of high school on intermittent home-bound because of them. Will I be able to explain this in my application? I mean, it is starting to get better I'm volunteering with a local abuse shelter and special needs program, but it still seems like nothing compared with people I'm going to be competing with. I have not taken the SAT/ACT's yet but my project scores are between 2100 and 2300/33 and 36. Oh, and I'm ranked 8 in my class.

I want to get into Amherst College/Wesleyan/Oberlin/Tulane. Amherst is my number one choice, but I feel like my medical condition has put me out of the race. Will there be any way to explain why my EC's have been lack, and not make it seem like I'm complaining or making excuses in a sense?

I'm sorry if this was a bit jumpy and doesn't make much sense. Medication. Huh.

Absolutely! Just add a brief explanation in the “Additional Information” section of your Common Application.

If you don’t want to write about this yourself, your guidance counselor can include information about it in his/her letter.

Have your GC explain in the School Report form.

Thanks y’all!

I was in a similar position. You can even use this as an opportunity to show them how you can successfully overcome such situations.
