Your ACT/SAT are well below the 25th percentile. Everything else is good, but I’d still call it a low reach, especially since they’re trying to get their scores up this year. Definitely apply, and if you’re rejected, just go to one of the branch campuses for a year and then transfer.

To be blunt, not sure being Asian is viewed as a justification for a 23 ACT. That being said, your SAT is a little better and closer to the 25th percentile, so make sure they see that. If you’re not a native English speaker, and a really bad verbal scored pulled everything else down, that might be noticed. Make sure you make admissions aware of it. Even work it into your essay if possible. If you’re lower income/first generation college student and didn’t have the resources for test prep, that could come into consideration.

Definitely apply. You have a great gpa, and there are around 5% of recent freshman classes with a 23 or lower and around 15% that have the same SAT.

Are you just one of those people who isn’t so good at standardized test-taking? Or is that 3.9 weighted? I’m not seeing how there can be such a huge gap between your test scores and your GPA.

As other people have recommended, retake those tests. Otherwise, your stats are great and I think you have a pretty good chance of being accepted.

The difference between someones GPA and SAT/ACT scores are one of the reasons colleges require standardized tests. Each school grades differently and the courses and competition varies considerably. Some high schools give extra credit just for completing your homework and no penalty for not doing it. As flawed as standardized testing may be, it is IMHO necessary to have some uniform evaluation system to avoid students with artificially inflated GPAs from appearing more competitive than they actually are. Not that this is necessarily the case in the difference between the OPs GPA and SAT/ACT scores.

I think many colleges consider Asians as ORMs and being Asian with lower stats might actually decrease your chances of being accepted. Might.
