I am in my first semester of college and I got a D in my calculus I class which will make my gpa drop. Will med schools look down upon taking a class twice?
Regular MD schools do not allow grade replacement.
Well, you need to retake it and you need to get an A.
Of course med schools are going to notice this and they won’t like it, but you don’t have much choice. DO schools do allow grade replacement, so those are also an option for you.
If you need calc 1 to fulfill graduation or major requirements, you have no choice but to retake the class.
When computing GPAs, AMCAS will include both the original D and whatever the new grade for the retake is. (IOW average the 2 grades, but count the course as double weighted.)
