You’ll probably need about 1100 CR+M, and I’m not sure what you have because you included the writing portion. GPA is good if it’s unweighted. ACT is on the low range, but Stony Brook isn’t big on the ACT. Stony Brook doesn’t look at ECs as much as private schools do. Stony Brook is probably a match, but maybe a reach if you have a weak CR+M or if your GPA is heavily weighted.

Stony Brook is a match. I don’t know anything about the ACT, but I’d retake the SAT try and get your CR up a little higher if you can and you shouldn’t have any problems getting in.

I wouldn’t quite put it that way. Stony Brook is what you make of it, but there’s definitely always something to do. There are around 10,000 people living on campus, and you’ll never be alone. I think that a lot of the people who don’t like Stony Brook’s social atmosphere is because they need to be proactive in meeting people. If you don’t talk to anyone, you won’t know anyone. The problem is, you can’t expect anyone to talk to you because 9 times out of 10, they won’t unless you have friends in common. If you’re not an extrovert, there are always clubs to join and they’re an easy way to make friends.

I definitely wouldn’t rule Stony Brook out for its social life. Being so big, it has everything that you can possibly want.
