I know no one can really know for sure, but I would appreciate it if anyone could share their thoughts on how much aid I could possibly receive.

White Male
Philadelphia, PA
Best Public HS in Philly
Applying EA (Business - more competitive, I know...)

Weighted GPA: 4.05 (4.2 = highest), there are no unweighted numbers at all in my school
Rank: 40/520 (~7.7%)
Course Rigor: If a 10 was the hardest courseload, mine would be 7.5/10
SAT: 1430 or 2200 (Math = 770, CR = 660, Writing = 770)

E.C.'s: minimal, I regret this very seriously - Peer Mentor (tutor), 200 hours of community service, job at supermarket (during the week), will try to get involved during senior year but I realize it is too late. I could not even get into NHS, because my high school requires leadership positions for consideration into the program. I hope no one jumps to the conclusion that I am one-dimensional and not well rounded, because this truly is not the case. Essays should help...

Essays: assume great (9/10)
Recommendations: good (8.5/10)

Family Income: somewhere between 65k and 80k

Keep in mind, this is assuming I get accepted. Nova is expensive, as we all know, and from what I've been hearing the financial aid tends to not be very robust. If possible, give estimates on both need-based and merit-based aid. Thanks in advanced to any replies...

No. 10 char

Actually, I have no idea… I am sure they should give something… but middle class people are usually screwed by colleges. You need to either be rich enough to pay, or really poor that the school covers it.

Villanova doesn’t do merit-based aid. Besides their very, very, very elite Presidential scholarship. Which is very, very impossible lol.

Need-based aid for you will suck. We had around a 60k income and got maybe 20k tops as financial aid. for a 50k+ school? yeah, I didn’t go lol

static, what gives you the impression that they don’t do merit-based aid? There is a whole list of grants and scholarships that they sponsor, not just the presidential scholarship…

Where is this whole list of grants and scholarships?

The list is somewhere on the financial aid section of their website. Besides the Presidential Scholarship, there are Villanova Scholarships and Commuter Scholarships amongst others. The website lists average SAT/ACT scores, GPAs, etc. for each scholarship available.

Well… you live in Philly… so you can commute. Some poor person (you seem more middle class and I do not know how it works exactly) on College Confidential got 12.5k for the Commuter Scholarship, and with your SAT/GPA, you will probably get like a $2000-$4000 Villanova Scholarship. Hopefully you can get a grant or something… Still. Villanova is very expensive… You can try to apply to a few “outside” scholarships, but realistically you won’t get much that way. You will probably be forced to take out loans if you really really want to attend… and you need to decide if it would be worth it.

like, the fact that you are white hurts you… and your EC’s suck.

Hey, I was the one who got that 12.5k a year scholarship, and I wouldn’t classify myself as poor! My family’s income is at the high end of the range the original poster gave, so by your definition we’d both be middle class. It’s a merit-based award, remember, so the total amount doesn’t necessarily reflect your financial need.
