I graduated from hs and this semester I started cc looking to transfer to either UCSB or CALPOLY slo. My major is mechanical engineering. I took many college classes while I was going to hs, so now I will be able to transfer in two years with an AA degree in engineering. However my early grades were not that hot and the hightest GPA I can get in two years is a 3.66. Could someone give me an approximation of my chances of getting into UCSB or Calpoly slo for mecahnical engineering with a 3.4-3.5 ish GPA. Thank you
You would be competitive for both if you do achieve around a 3.4 or higher GPA. SLO is always a tough admit if you are not in the local service area.
Here is a link for UC Transfer GPA admit ranges by major and campus to give you an idea for UCSB. I suggest you broaden your list and include a UC in which can use TAG since Engineering is excluded for UCSB.

I agree, you should broaden your your target list. If you want to attend a UC, find one that allows TAG for your major.
Thank u, I looked at other UCs suck as Davis and Irvine and I was wondering how their engineering programs were when compared Calpoly SLO and UCSB. Also if I know I’ll be getting a C in physics this semester, is it better to drop it with a W and retake it next semester and have potential for my final GPA to be a 3.7-3.8 or get a C.

One more question, do the UCs look at my college GPA or UC transferable GPA when deciding to accept?
UCD and UCI have excellent Engineering programs and I suggest you TAG to one. Even UCR or UCSC’s Engineering programs are well respected along with Cal Poly Pomona.
The UC’s will use your UC transferable GPA but you need to check TAG requirements since many may require that you have the Physics series completed by Spring prior to transfer. A W will not hurt you.

The admit GPA ranges on the UC school list, were they UC transferable GPA or college GPA?
The admit ranges listed are for UC transferable GPA.
So since the college goes semester by semester, for example I have a 2.8 and have to bring it up every semester and every time I bring it up it will be less than the time before. And for UC transferable GPA do they just take all the gradepoints and divide them the credit instead of the semester to semester system?
