i honestly just need to have some sort of clue if i have a chance of getting into unc chapel hill. here are my stats:

I am a massachusetts resident that applied for the nov 1st deadline.
GPA- 3.62 (weighted)
Senior Course Schedule:
AP Chem
Anatomy/Physiology Honors
Trig/Calc Honors
Phsyics Honors
English IV Honors
Yearbook Business Manager Honors

Clubs/Extracurricular Activities: (Ones That Stand Out)
National Honor Society
Student Council
Yearbook Business Manager
Chairman for Senior Citizen Prom (Stuco)
Link Leader (student mentor)
Confirmed Catholic (participated in YNIA-week long service trip in Tampa, FL)
30 Hour Famine Participant
John&Abigail Adams Award Winner (free tuition to any state school in MA for high MCAS scores)

I have always taken honors classes at my school and challeneged myself. I am concerned because I only got a 1400 on my SAT scores. I do not test well on standardized testings, at all. I am also an African American female coming from a low income family. (if that matters haha)!

What are the chances of me getting in with those stats?????????
HELP!

17% Out-of-state students
95% had h.s. GPA of 3.75 and higher (that’s not a subset of OOS)

The lower end of the middle 50% for SAT is 1790

I’d say that UNC is a reach for you, BUT, there’s still a chance. Don’t fail to apply and wonder the rest of your life. The worst they can say is ‘No’.

That said, I would suggest that you think about how you present your low test scores. I’m guessing that the MCAS is a standardized test that you did well enough on to get the award? Be careful listing that as an honor if you plan to explain your test scores by the “I don’t do well on standardized tests” route. It might just catch the Adcom’s eye like it did mine.

Your SAT scores are a little low for OOS, as is your class rank (~21%). I would have backups just in case, but by no means don’t not apply (you said you already did). You may be surprised

Your chances are either very low or next to 0. UNC OOS is a very tough admit. I was accepted from Virginia and my stats at the time I sent in the app were…

Rank: 2/480 (nabbed 1 at the end =p )
ACT: 31
SAT: 1990 (Math:740 CR:640 Writing:610) (yikes!)
SAT 2s: Math 1 680 U.S. History 790
3 years of XC
3 years of Marching Band
3 years as Academic team President
Guidance Office Assistant
job reffing soccer
100+ hours spent volunteering in HS
Member of NHS, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, etc, etc.
Recipient of numerous school and county awards
10 APs in total, AP Scholar with Distinction (eventually picked up National)
Great recs and essays imo

I was also admitted to
UVA (where I now attend)
William and Mary
JMU Honors program
Dayton (full ride)

Was rejected from Dartmouth (low test scores and lack of awesome ECs did me in no doubt)

Rumor has it the auto-admit from OOS hinges on being Valedictorian or Salutatorian of your graduating class. UNC keeps a running stat of how many Vals and Sals go to UNC. That is why I probably got in with my sub-par test scores.

Don’t think race and low income will help you either w/UNC OOS. Enough blacks are picked up from North Carolina. OOS students are what picks up UNC in the rankings, they want the most academically capable from OOS.

Sorry for dashing any hopes =( , just being honest.
