Will I be competitive for Duke?

Thanks. School only does quartiles, and I should be in the top one. We can’t take APs until JR year and not many honors classes are offered for freshman year (I think 2) so I’d say my course load is pretty rigorous.

There isn’t much focus in your application - first word that comes into my head is mediocrity. Students who apply for schools like Duke have focus in specific areas, yours, eh, stuff like “mowing lawn = business” sounds like your trying to add stuff to compensate for what your weak in. If I were a betting man, i’d say 20%, maybe 25%.

^Alright. I’ve tried to have focus with my love for sports (XC, track, spirit club, Gaelic, collegiate summer league) and then politics with Student Council and then an actual government internship

Great ECs, SAT IIs are ok, (Econ is a mathy major, so you may want to think about math II to bump up that score, at all top level schools with a mathy major, they expect 750 + for math).
The ACT is on the lower percentile for duke, so I’d recommend you take it again, but your ECs are great, it’s hard to judge your GPA, what’s your estimated rank?
Is this the hardest courseload offered?
If those are answered I could give you a better answer.

Thanks! I took math ii and got 700, retook and got a 650 (eh). My coursework is very riverine, I could have taken like 2 more APs (1 instead of honors) and one more honors class (GC recommended against it), so I’d say it’s pretty close to most rigorous. They have more APs, but its impossible to fit them all in your schedule. (You can’t take them until Jr year). My school doesn’t rank, just quartiles, and I should be in the top one. My school is pretty well respected and kids who have gotten into Duke (nobody has applied ED) have a better GPA (like 4.2 weighted, so I guess they didn’t screw up frosh year like me) so I’m hoping that my upward trend, ED, and uniqueness with ECs can boost me up. I’ll probably retake the ACT and see what happens (SAT was really bad so I’ve given up with that).

Thanks again

Riverine?
Yeah retake the ACTs and see what happens from there!
You have a decent chance, show it in your essays too.

I know of a girl that had very similar resume as you and got accepted into Duke. Obviously as people say its a crapshoot, but youre definitely on the right track and theres always reach schools for almost everyone! I would say you have a 30-40% chance. Chance me back

haha auto correct on the iPad made my misspelling of rigorous into riverine (but is that even a word) haha, I’m not the best speller, then add in a weird keyboard.

And thanks! I’ll chance you back, I’ll look for your thread

Your scores, GPA, and ECs are great! I definitely think that internship that will stand out. You have very good chance in my opinion!

Alright thanks! Anyone else have an opinion. I hope I get in!

I think you have a chance, but you really need to emphasize why you want to go there and why they should want you too! Good luck!

You have a shot but dont count on it

So does that mean probable denial?
