I am going to be a freshman in college next school year and will be going to St. John's University in Queens. I want to end up getting a job four years in Los Angeles in the business field. Obviously, grad school is not an option after college since I need some job experience before that happens.

I am going to STJ because it is offering me over $20K off per year, do you think I will be looked down upon b/c I went to STJ? Will people in LA put me aside because I went to a school like STJ?

I’ll be straightforward.

You will be looked at as average. If you want to have a prestigious diploma then by all means go to a prestigious school.

If you work hard in college you can transfer. I’m in a similar boat.

A college degree and a good GPA are more important than where you attend (except for some very specific majors). Why is it so important for you to work in LA?

I always wanted to go to school in LA, but the tuition is really high. So I want to eventually move out there for a job.

So you would say a good GPA at STJ would look better than a mediocre one at lets say NYU?

Yeah very true! thanks a lot guys!

No one in LA will look down on you if you have good experience on your resume. You can get good resume experience through internships and part time jobs if you do well at St. John’s. To most employers, solid on-the-job-experience is more important than the name of your school. That is especially the case on the west coast.

Really? Are you from the West Coast? That is great news if it is in fact true!!!
