I'm applying to college as a transfer because I go to community college. I am only applying to state schools. I have a 2.8 GPA at community college, which is acceptable to the state schools, but last semester I got a D in one of my classes. I'm retaking the class this semester, and I was going to write the colleges I'm applying to an essay on why I got the D, but I had trouble writing it, so I'm not sending in an essay.
What are the chances I will get accepted to the colleges I'm applying to with a 2.8 GPA, but a D on my transcript?

There is not enough iformation. It depends on the school and on other factors. A “D” on a transcript will not keep you out of every college. There are thousands of people who got into colleges with a “D” on their transcripts.

Side note, if you’re wanting to explain that D, you don’t need to write an essay. A mere paragraph, or a few sentences, is fine. They will see the D and be a little curious why its there- they don’t want a 800 word reflective essay, they just would like to hear a quick explanation!
