I am a member of the SEAS 2015. I was admitted via Early Decision to Columbia. Recently, however, I acted in an immature manner. I go to a very competitive New York school, and left very negative comments about an individual who goes to our rival school. Although I concealed my identify, he found out that it was me. He seemed very angry, and would not talk to me. If he reported the comment to the school officials, and I get suspended, will I be rescinded?

I am very paranoid and worried at this moment. ALL suggestions welcome. Please and THank You

if you get suspended, it’s not going to look good. but columbia probably will give you the chance to explain yourself, so if it comes to that, be sincere and apologize. let them know that you’re sorry and you will not do this again.

Thank you, Breakdown. H/O, will that be sufficient? I did not use any racism or any other type of prejudice, nor did I curse. The statement was still fairly negative, however, and I was wondering if it will be a case serious enough for Rescindence, which usually comes with Cheating, Theifery, Drug usage, et cetera?

It’s very unlikely that you will get your acceptance rescinded for this. Even if your school did suspend you simply for making negative remarks about a rival (which would be silly; it’s just the Internet and it’s not like you were bullying him, just expressing displeasure) it’s not the kind of thing that I think would be grounds for rescission.

Am I the only one that thinks this is the most inane, nebulous question in a while??? If this is the caliber of student accepted to Columbia, forget the actual infraction, what does this say about their standards?

Who knows, maybe you’ll get the firing squad!

Don’t think this will get you suspended. I believe that the school will view this more of a “playful rivalry,” and I also don’t think that the person will report such a comment to his school.
