Will I ever be able to transfer to bigger name schools?

Currently going to Indiana University-Purdue University of Fort Wayne, for my first year and gen eds.

Here's my background

-Very intelligent, and very passionate about business
-Slacked in high school, got all A+'s in all my business classes, but slacked in most of my other classes. I know if I retook SAT's I'd have a 2000+ score, only pulled a 1700 on my first try on like 3 hours of sleep.
-Really wish I hadn't slacked
-Was involved in BPA (Business Professionals of America) but that was about it (had to work 30+ hours a week to stay paying for all my own stuff)

Anyways, this year I plan on buckling down and getting amazing grades and the grades I know I can. But is there really ANY chance to get into say Berkley, Chicago, IU or any top 50 business school? Should I retake the SAT's, should I do some programs in college to get more "credentials". Or do I really have no hope in getting into something because of my past high school days?

I know with the opportunity I would excel as I'm very good in math, and anything business related.

Thanks for any help

By the way I start school in August, so should I still retake SAT/ACT in September? And I slacked by MY standards, still had a B average. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to transfer to a better business school after my first year.

Just transfer to IU Bloomington after taking at least 26 credits at IPFW. Kelley School of Business is ranked in the top ten for accounting and finance. Take a semester’s worth of courses at IUB after you get down there, then apply to Kelley. Would cost about 20K a year for tuition, room and board to attend in-state. My son knows a girl who transferred from IPFW after one year and got a big four internship offer during recruiting at Bloomington.

You won’t need to retake the SAT to get into Kelley, if you just transfer after one year.

Take a lot of Icore prerequisites at IPFW that will transfer to Bloomington. Get at least a 3.0 your Fall semester, and you can apply to transfer into IU for Fall 2012, then apply to Kelley during your first semester at IU while taking a semester of classes in Bloomington.

Kelley won’t take a lot of IPFW business/econ classes, but here are the ones you should take first year at IPFW. Kelley will accept IPFW classes for these. If you can’t do well in them at IPFW, then there is no way that you would get into Kelley Bloomington anyway.

BUS A201
BUS A202
ECON E201
ECON E202
ENG W131 Elementary Composition
MATH 213 Finite Math
COM114 Fundamentals of Speech
six credits worth of arts & humanities classes that will transfer to Bloomington.

You really need at least solid B’s in all these classes to have a legitimate shot to get into Kelley. IU will accept you, but anything lower than solid B’s in these classes at IPFW (and at Bloomington, too) and you put yourself at high risk for not getting into Kelley.

Take all these and you will have seven of the 15 Icore prerequisites completed, and 27 credits. You definitely need at least 26 credits in order to be classed a transfer student at Kelley.

Thank you! That’s definitely one of the the schools I’m looking at, actually I’m only looking at 4, and I know even halfway trying, I will get the grades needed to get in.

BUT if I do decide to look at others, as far as Chicago etc, is there ANYWAY to get in? Should I retake SATs for those? ACTS? Start doing programs at IPFW that I couldn’t do in HS. I guess my main question is do I have any chance at getting into a Berkley or a Chicago, or anything like that?

Edit: By the way although I wouldn’t mind interning at a big 4 etc, I want the accounting degree as a backup/if I own my own business like I want to. I don’t really want to be an accountant unless I have to. I’d really like an internship in finance such as analysts, etc. that’s why I’m looking at chicago and so on.

So what I’ve researched is it is possible but I’ll have to be ON top of my game

-Good grades, REALLY good grades
-Extra Curriculars
-GOOD professor recommendations
-And an internship will help

My sister went from a community college to Berkeley. And I know another girl who went from community college to Princeton! But they both had 4.0s in CC, so I would say just do an internship, get good grades, and wait for the letters to come  chance me back?

Will do, any more words of wisdom or “real shots” at these schools would be interested

-Good grades, REALLY good grades
-Extra Curriculars
-GOOD professor recommendations
-And an internship will help

To get into Kelley you don’t need any extra curriculars, nor professor recommendations, and you certainly don’t need an internship.

As far as really good grades, all you need is solid B’s in all of your coursework and IPFW and IU in certain courses to be guaranteed admission to Kelley.
