Hi I have heard that Wesleyan has lots of weird people. I play lacrosse and am rather preppy, but not very conservative. THe coach is trying to recruit me. Can anyone give me any feedback?
Thanks

Preppy has its place at Wes. You wouldn't be in the majority, but

a) there are other "preppy" types about esp. in the sports (and the frats, if you're into that), so you will probably find like-minded people through your team and

b) many Wes students suscribe to the "live and let live" theory and are perfectly happy to be friends with people who don't necissarily dress the same/listen to the same obscure bands/geek out to comic books/whatever, as long as you feel the same way (though you probably won't get very far calling people "weird," though I understand that that might just be you repeating what other people have said).

Thanks so much. I really liked it, but do not want to feel out of place, coming from a sports oriented, jocky preppy place, although very tolerant of people different from myself.

I'd def. try visiting overnight if you can (normally if you are being recruited they let you stay with someone from the team you're being recruited too). That should give you a sense of whether or not you feel comfortable at Wes :D

Thanks, but t hey want me to go early decision and time is running out. As long as I am not out of place and there is a fair representation of people into sports and a bit on the preppy side. Thanks for your help and advice. I would appreciate anymore feedback. I really liked the coach and Wesleyan has an awesome lacrosse team.

you'll do fine. Economics is one of the most popular majors (right up there with Film) lacrosse has a very loyal following. And, the football field is right in middle of campus. You definitley won't feel out of place at Wesleyan.

Thanks for all of your feedback.

Help. ANymore feedback?

You might try posting this int the Wesleyan forum.

I agree with the other posters.

My D is a freshman at Wes. She is not in any way weird. She was varsity tennis all four years in high school and a real well rounded kid. She is not into drinking or smoking but has a large group of friends who are all different types of kids. That is one of reasons she loves the school. She never feels pressure to be or act any way other than who she is .She goes to parties where kids are stoned or drunk or sober and has a good time. You will have no problem finding your niche. The education is fantastic, she loves her profs. I was just talking to her today and there is nothing she doesn't love about Wes. She is never bored and there are always a million things to do.

Dana's Dad

My friend's son went to Wesleyan. His comment to me was that everyone their was an activist for some cause or another.

There are tons of things to do at Wes. My roommate and I are both from NY and we are not activists, we are informed and debate politics with others and each other but we are certainly not "crazy" liberals. Believe me, this past summer I was thinking wow what have I gotten myself into here. But it is cool. I have plenty of friends who would fit the Wesleyan "type" but that is what is great about Wes. There are tons of people who don't fit that mold. The only prereq to being a Wes type is being savvy about many topics because if you want to converse about something you better know your stuff. But to answer your question, I have plenty of friends on the preppy side. But everyone has a live and let live approach. Hope my comment isn't too long and still coherent. Oh yeah, I don't play sports here besides intramurals (which are great) but my roommate is on Wrestling and Baseball and he has quite the time here. Thanks for your time.

I live in Fauver, which they show on the tour typically. Ask me about anything. I think my stats are on some of my earlier posts if you are into that. if not just ask. The most important thing is fit. It would have been free for me to go to Lafayette or Rochester with Merit money but I liked it here the best.

One last post, the only reason I am on here so late and not out is I work the closing shift at the library. Right now my friends are having an awesome time at an RJD2 concert, watching the World Series in the various lounges, having study groups, or discussing anything in the halls or rooms. Some might be sleeping though and that is awesome too, I find college is about scheduling work around naps. alright I'm rambling, later

Thanks everyone. It seems like a great place. Anyone else. I really appreciatae all of the feedback.
